Description:
On 13 and 14th January 2019, an assessment on water quality in Sungai Benut, Simpang Renggam had been carried out by lecturers from the Faculty of Civil Engineering and the environment (FKAAS), UTHM. The purpose of the assessment was to identify the sustainable water supply in Simpang Renggam. This assessment was also one of the environmental assessment community projects in the Parliament of Simpang Renggam.

Description:
On 3rd February 2019, a collaboration research meeting was held with the Centre for Environmental Sustainability and Water Security (IPASA), UTM on water quality and health issue in Simpang Renggam. Throughout the whole meeting, both universities were identifying the issues of water quality and health issues by identifying the symptoms of the problems. This meeting was not only focusing on researching, but also real solutions and implementation. Both universities were trying their best to come out with a very good solution towards the parties who involved to make water supply more sustainable.

The presentation was basically on the paperwork of Eco-Masjid project: Reuse Ablution Water for Sustainable Living. The presentation includes a budget that would involve the project, the project to be implemented and the objectives of doing it.

World Water Day 2019

Description:
World Water Day 2019 held in Pantai Merdeka on 24 March 2019 awarded Chee Ching Hui, FTK’s final year Degree student a gold winner through a study titled “Designing A Trash Trap for Drainage” and brought home a cash prize worth RM750 with plaque. According to the thesis supervisor, Nur Aini Mohd Arish @ Arshad, this study involved designing and producing a garbage trap that can be used to collect gross pollutants found in drains as an early stage of pollution prevention. This created trash can be varied for the adjustment of the drainage with multiple widths and has two filters with different sizes of holes. This garbage trap also has a Raspberry Pi system to help garbage collection by sending a message telling the user to collect trapped garbage when this action is needed.

Water Sampling in Simpang Renggam

Description:
Some of the postgraduate students from Universiti Tun Hussien Onn Malaysia (UTHM) had dropped to Sungai Pinggan, Kampung Bukit Nyamuk, Simpang Renggam for follow-up on problem-solving towards the river pollution. The students and the Simpang Renggam team took some water samples that needs to be tested in the laboratory. The results of the testing will be presented to the Water Regulatory Agency (BAKAJ) and the Johor Department of Environment (DOE). Throughout the inspection, the students have met some important people, where they discussed the causes and solutions of the pollution to ensure that these pollution problems are addressed. Another purpose of this inspection is to make students realize how important “university for the community”, where the university should be the place to solve the community problems.

Description:
The talk was delivered by Khairul Effendy Tusam, Chief Executive Officer of Rainhill Water Services on 28th April 2019 at FKAAS Seminar Room. This program is a collaboration program between Micropollutant Research Centre with Rainhill Services Sdn. Bhd. Rainhill Water Services Sdn. Bhd is considered as an infant or a new company because it was born in the year 2005. The talk was started with an introduction to what Rainhill Water Services is, what they do an overview of a typical water supply system in Malaysia. According to Khairul Effendy Tusam, the water system might be different for each country and the focus of the talk was only on a typical water supply system in Malaysia.

Water Quality Testing

Description:
A group of lecturers from the Faculty of Engineering Technology (FTK) came to Kampung Orang Asli Kankar for water quality testing in that area. The purpose of this activity was to determine the quality of daily usage of water in that area. Besides, this activity is also a part of corporate social responsibilities for the society in the Aboriginal Village of mathematics senangar. The community from this village uses the source of water for their daily routine, such as cooking, washing clothes and dishes and many more. With this testing, the lecturers can identify the quality of water.
Throughout the testing, the water that was used by the villagers in Kampung Orang Asli Kankar was in good condition. Hearing the news, the villagers relieved and thankful to the lecturers for doing the water quality testing volunteering. Besides, this testing activity makes the lecturers gaining new knowledge and can implying this knowledge among UTHM students (Sustainable Education). This activity might be done by the students as their project or assignments so that they can do the testing practically.

Description:
On 14th September 2019, Faculty of Civil Engineering (FKAAS) in collaboration with Research Centre for Soft Soils (RECESS) has successfully organized a “Program Rakan Sungai IWK Kluang 2019 Sungai Sayong Renggam”. This program runs weekly on Saturday and attended by students from the Faculty of Civil Engineering (FKAAS). In addition, the program is open to UTHM students who wish to participate in clean-up activities. The clean-up activities including clean-up the river area, well, drainage areas and the trees along the river. Hence, this program delivering the importance of collaboration between local communities with all the parties in an effort to maintain a clean and healthy ecosystem towards sustainability. In addition, a safe and healthy environment creates a relaxing atmosphere and making the air more pleasant and refreshing. Therefore, this program greatly benefits UTHM students in preserving our environment not only for today but also for the future.

An underground water quality testing program for the Water Sampling Technology (BNA 30703) course for students year 3 in the Environmental Engineering Technology Program located in Kampung Lubuk Bakul, Pagoh went smoothly. This test program is in collaboration with Alurbina (Batu Pahat) consulting firm. The JTKA staff involved were Dr Mimi Suliza Mohamed, Mrs Noor Khazanah A. Rahman, and Mr Muhamad Khairul Fitri Sarimin.

One visit with YBhg Dean FTK for Corporate Social Responsibility Program (CSR) for domestic water supply project to native village at Kangkar Senangar, Parit Sulong, Batu Pahat, Johor has been going well.
The objective from the visited is ‘’tube well’ which has been built and used by the locals. Along with the issues involved in the village. Also came to visit is Mr Lim Abdul Rahman, Tok Batin Orang Asli Kangkar Senangar; KJ JTKA PM Ts Dr Norshuhaila Mohamed Sunar, Dr Mohamad Faizal Tajul Baharuddin, and Ts Zarizi Awang.
