A group of UTHM researchers led by Ts. Dr. Elmy Johana Mohamad from Faculty of Electric and Electronic Engineering (FKEE) has successfully produce Smart Classroom which enable to reduce electric consumption in the university. Due to the success, a launching ceremony “Energy Saving Smart Classroom” was held on 30th October 2019. Event was officiated by UTHM Deputy Vice Cancellor (Research and Innovation), Profesor Ts. Dr. Ruzairi Abdul Rahim. The result of a three-party cooperations which consist of research group from Instrumentation and Sensing Technology (InSeT), FKEE; Development and Maintenance Centre (PPP) and Information Technology Centre has successfully solve the project according to the targeted date.
Smart Lecture Room System provides lecture room that is uniquely IoT-based for the UTHM main campus which are also equipped with automatic door lock system and also Infrared Motion Sensing (PIR) in order to enhance security of the lecture room together with internal and external lamps control system which are able to reduce the electricity cost. Both systems can be controlled by using Smart Telephone Application (Blynk). According to the project research leader, Ts. Dr. Elmy Johana Mohamad this project is to support the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR4.0) through the IoT technology use which is new and smarter.
The use of IoT is the combination of electronic and internet which will give benefits in human life in line with the development of IR 4.0 technology. Meanwhile, Dr. Ruzairi in his speech said that this project can be an example to the other researcher because UTHM has always want project which is conducted by its own researcher. For the record, “Energy Saving Smart Classroom” is an idea and inspiration from Dr. Ruzairi in order to reduce university utility costs.
