On August 2024, SCO UTHM visited Hayama Primary School to learn about their inspiring low-carbon initiatives!
During the visit:
• The Principal introduced the Parents-Teacher Association (PTA) members present.
• The school highlighted eco-friendly practices like forest creation, ethical meals, and innovative composting methods using urchin and animal manure.
• Tiny Forest Club uses animal manure and its own fertilizer to nourish plants and trees around the school.
• The School Canteen Project is an initiative that prioritizes using locally sourced ingredients to provide students with nutritious meals, while also reducing carbon emissions through shorter food transportation distances.
• The Summer Hayama Orange Project repurposes previously unused oranges for various uses, such as food flavoring and energy cleansing, effectively reducing waste and methane emissions .”
• The curriculum promotes Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), fostering a generation that values the environment.
